Our story

A house for clothes that last

Aveline began with a single coat and a simple question: what would it take to make clothing people keep for decades rather than seasons?

We would rather sell you one coat you wear for twenty years than twenty you forget about.

Our first piece was a long, unlined wool coat cut in a New York apartment and sewn by a small family workshop in northern Portugal. It took a year to get right. We made forty of them, and every one sold to people who wrote back to tell us they wore it every day.

That coat set the rules we still follow. We make a small collection each season, never more pieces than we can sell at full price, and we only work with mills and workshops we visit ourselves.

There are no sales calendars and no seasonal markdowns. When a style is gone, it is gone until the next run, and if something you bought from us needs mending, we mend it.

The atelier

  1. 01

    Draft

Every pattern is drafted by hand in our New York studio and fitted on real bodies, across every size, before a single metre of cloth is ordered.

  2. 02

    Source

We buy cloth directly from the mills that weave it: wool from Biella, silk from Como, merino and linen from northern Portugal. Leftover lengths become the next sample.

  3. 03

    Make

Four family-run workshops cut and sew each style in runs of under two hundred. Seams are finished by hand where it matters: hems, collars and buttonholes.

  4. 04

    Care

When a seam gives or a button goes missing, send the piece home. Repairs are complimentary for as long as you own it.

Materials

Natural fibres, traced to the mill

We choose cloth for how it will look in ten years, not how it photographs on day one.

  • Biella, Italy

    Wool

Dense double-faced and twill cloths from a mill that has been weaving since 1910.

  • Carpi, Italy

    Cashmere

Long-fibre Grade A cashmere, spun and knitted slowly so it softens rather than pills.

  • Como, Italy

    Silk

Heavy sandwashed satin and silk velvet with a fluid drape and a soft, matte glow.

  • Porto, Portugal

    Merino

Extra-fine undyed merino, knitted on hand-flat machines and linked at every seam.

  • Guimarães, Portugal

    Linen and cotton

Washed linen and organic cotton shirting that gets better with every wash.

  • Florence, Italy

    Leather

Full-grain, vegetable-tanned hides that darken and soften with years of use.
